HMS Scylla and James Eagan Layne, Saturday 16th May

We had a fun day out on Viking going out to the HMS Scylla and to the James Eagan Layne, Viking handling well in the force 4 winds and spring tides, being cox’n’d by Ken and Rob.  The wind had knocked the vis down to about 2-3m but the Scylla was good fun to dive on, with lots of life to look at, including lots of nudibranchs, jewel anemones and small pink sea fans beginning to colonise the decks.  After a bounce back to Mountbatten to swap cylinders and refuel on Mrs C’s lovely lemon drizzle cake and fantastic chocolate cake we were the only boat to go back out to the James.  The weather conditions made hitting the wreck with the shot line a bit more of a challenge but the 6 of us got in the water for some brief dives, some more brief than others…

The top tip from the day is: don’t eat a bacon and egg muffin before going out in rough seas on the RIB as you may end up regretting it all day!
